Russian kamikaze drones Geran-2, which are used to destroy ground targets, can be armed with air-to-air missiles. This proposal was made by the Telegram channel "Military Chronicle".
The author admitted that the Gerani could be turned into carriers of air-launched weapons, such as the R-60M short-range missiles.
“Supporters of this idea believe that since the Ukrainian Armed Forces use fighter jets (in particular, the F-16 ) as a means of combating kamikaze drones as they approach the capital and critical infrastructure, then under these conditions even the hypothetical threat that a drone could launch a retaliatory strike radically changes the behavior and cost of operations,” the statement says.
It is noted that the fighter drone will need a system that integrates the missile's thermal homing head into the drone's control circuit. The channel emphasized that the possible destruction of one F-16 would justify the construction of hundreds of such drones.
Earlier in June, the American publication Forbes wrote that Geranium-2 was repeatedly modernized during the special military operation. The devices received a jam-proof navigation system and additional engine protection. The drones' arsenal includes various warheads, including thermobaric ones.
